Memories of the good old days of Edmonton Bengalis

Can we ever forget it?

These were seen by our eyes, were voice of our hearts

Can it ever be forgotten?

Our History

Bengali population started settling in Edmonton, Alberta from the 1960s and its number gained momentum in the seventies. The yearnings of the local Bengalis for their traditions and cultural memories of the homeland engendered some sort of inner effervescence in their heart. Eventually, Bengali newcomers started celebrating Bengali cultural activities including Durga puja in Edmonton from the early 1970s. In 1979 they created and registered an official body in Edmonton with the name “Edmonton Bengali Association (EBA)”. Soon, the members of the EBA aspired.

The traditions continued with some elevated enthusiasm especially because of an exponential growth of Bengali population in Edmonton and in the surrounding areas.

The membership to the Association is open to all – who want to learn & contribute to the promotion of Bengali culture, music, literature, arts, drama and similar activities.
