Frequently asked questions

You can become a member by paying the appropriate membership fee. Having a membership will help us send you regular updates on our various events. The membership will also make you eligible to attend our AGM, vote, get connected and most importantly a feeling of belongingness. We collect membership fee in person usually during the Durga Puja and during other events as well. Memberships are for one year. Anyone becoming a member on or before 31st October of a fiscal year are eligible to vote. Membership can be paid by cheque, cash during and event or by e-transfer. Our association in general hold following events according to the given tentative schedule. Actual dates and venues are decided by the executive committee which are communicated to members well in advance. See the Event page in the website for specific details and to know the event fees.

We Publish and distribute our annual magazine to the members during the Durga Puja.
Announcement for the magazine is usually made in July and members are request to contribute their art-work, literary work, articles, poems and paintings for publication by first week of September.

Following guidelines to be used to prepare your work for publication

• Articles should be typed and not be more than 3 pages (A4 Size – 8½ by 11 Inches) long.

• Poems should not be more than 1 page (A4 Size – 8½ by 11 Inches) long.

• Articles and Poems should be written in Bengali or English. If you are sending a PDF version, please also include the source file in Microsoft Word because the editorial board may adjust the fonts and appearance to suit our requirements.

• Art work & Paintings can be Black and White or Color & should not be more than 1 page (A4 Size – 8½ by 11 Inches) long. Editorial board will select one of the submitted Artwork for the cover page. Submission shall be in JPEG format.

• Articles written in Bengali may be typed in Bengali Font. You can download Bengali font “Avro” from the web site: https://www.omicronlab.com/avro-keyboard.html

• The ultimate decision to publish any article, poem or painting will be taken by the Editorial Board

• We respectfully request that your work is exclusively prepared for publication in the EBA annual magazine. We would appreciate your cooperation in that regard.

Publishing your pictures
Every year, we request our members to make financial contributions to the association by publishing picture(s) in the magazines. Please email your photo to EBAPublications@gmail.com for publication on the Donor’s page.

The minimum donation for a donor’s list photograph is $100. Members also have the opportunity for full page greetings along with their photo for a donation of $400. We collect these donations via e-transfer, by cheque or by Cash.

Consent
We also need our members’ consent regarding publishing their names, address with phone number in our Annual Magazine as well as in our website. Please let us know by August 30th, if members don’t want us to do so. Otherwise, association will assume that we have your consent to publish your private information mentioned above.

We encourage our members, their family and friends to participate in various performances in our indoor events. Announcements are made 4 weeks in advance before an events. Performance like solo and group songs, monologues, one act plays, poetry recitation, playing instrument, solo and group dances are most common. Please contact the cultural secretary if you want to perform any of these or any other type of activity. There are no age, sex, linguistic or cultural restrictions for performances.

Facility can be rented out by members and non-members at a very reasonable cost for personal events and social gatherings. Please contact anyone in the Executive committee if you want to do so.

There are carrom boards, Dart board, table tennis table and an exercise machine in the facility. To join the existing group or to initiate new games, please contact the sport secretary.

We encourage our members to donate for social cause. Our youth affairs secretary collects donation for food bank, hospitals, less fortunate and vulnerable people. Donations are usually collected during the indoor events. You can however contribute any time. Please contact our youth affairs secretary if you want to do so.

We can provide assistance to anyone needing a ride from the airport to home or a hotel and/or planning to attend EBA events. We are also happy to assist our members requiring help within our limits during any crisis. Please contact the executive committee.
